Initially, carryout bags and their sizes seemed straightforward enough to me. The merchant placed the purchased goods into a plastic bag, hands the bag to me, and I’m on my way out the door with my items in hand. Then I started working at Pak-Sher and realized there is a lot more to bags than what I previously thought. If you are considering getting customized bags for your organization, this guide to custom bags should help you understand your options.
Film Gauge – this is the thickness of the bag and is measured in mils (which is 1/1,000 of an inch). For perspective, a standard T-Shirt bag is 0.6 mil thick. The thickness tends to increase the strength of the bag, so if your customers are carrying heavy items, it’s worth considering a heavier gauge film.
Film Color– one of the great things about plastic bags is the ability to customize, and the film color is extremely easy to customize. In many cases, we can very closely match the color of the film you want. We can even make the inside of the bag a different color from the outside, giving you a bag that really pops!
Size – With packaging, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all bag. We offer a variety of standard sizes for all bags, but we can also make a custom-sized bag to fit your needs. We are happy to work with you to ensure you are getting a properly sized bag for your applications. Here’s a small cheat sheet for correct bag sizes:
- ½ Steam Table – 24” SoftTote
- Full Steam Table, 2 High – 34” SineWave
- 9×9, 3 High – 19” SineWave
- 9” Large Hinged Lid, 1 High w/ Sides – 21” SineWave
- 10” Round, 3 Side by Side, 2 High – 28″ SofTote
Graphics – This is arguably the most crucial part of the customization to most people. It is the chance to make your bag shine, and Pak-Sher understands the importance of printing high-quality graphics. Typically, a bag manufacturer that offers quality printing will require graphics that are:
- In Vector Line Format
- PMS color number specifications
- If printing in 4 color process – layered artwork in *.psd or *.eps formats
Be cautious of manufacturers that will print from a jpeg or other low-resolution file type because the print quality will be very low.
